Yes, I am still here!

Sorry about the delay in posting….I had surgery on March 12. The surgery was only "suppose" to take 5 hours, but it turned into 8. My urologist informed me that I had more than normal amount of blood vessels in my left kidney, which in turn took time to clap off. I ended up having two units of blood in the operating room, and two in my room.
I was released on Saturday March 15. Since I had two incisions (kidney and uterus) it was more uncomfortable than when I had the partial left kidney done in January.
I had my staples removed on Wednesday the 19, but I still had discomfort and the nurse noted redness around the lower abdomen incision. The left kidney incision looked great.
On Friday March 28, I was taking my morning shower. The nurse had told me to start pulling off those little sterile strips a week after the staple removal, so I started taking them off one by one from my hysterectomy incision. WELL, while in the shower, I sprung a leak literally. Junk was coming out of my hysterectomy incision, squirting all over the shower. It was so DISGUSTING! I didn’t know what to think, what to do or ??? I jumped out of the shower, placed a towel over the incision and called my hubby. I informed him that I was leaking everywhere and he made a beeline home from work.
While dripping wet from the shower, a towel over my incision, I called the doctor and was given an appointment within the hour.
WELL, my incision was infected, and without ANY pain medication, they cut it open and stuffed it with gauze. I have been put on antibiotics and EVERY SINGLE day, I go back to the Wound Care Nurse (50 miles round trip) and I am re packed.
They told me today it will take at LEAST two months to heal and I will probably have to come every day for another 2 weeks.
Other than that, I do feel much better.
And....I am now cancer free! Yahoo !

Wow. That took my breath away.

The redness would have been an immediate cue, to me, because of my experience. When my leg incision (for the broken femur) got red it meant trouble, and I was glad I'm married to a veterinarian. I'm not a companion pet (not really), but she has plenty of experience with dealing with mammal wounds, so I didn't need to make that drive: she washed & packed it for me.

I ENVY YOU FOR BEING CANCER FREE! :) Good for you!

Gotta post a photo of you in that shirt. Crop out the face if you want. :)

p.s. SO glad to hear your silence was not due to any trouble.
